funnies...

(And, I wanted to post another picture but I found this one of Claire & Lily and I was just amazed at how much Lily looks like Drew!!! What do you think?) :)

*Wednesday at the insurance office, the lady was singing "twinkle, twinkle, little star" to Lily. Lily said, "Shhh! my sing." and started singing! She is very particular about singing. She thinks SHE is the best singer ever & mama thinks she is right (Claire is too!). :)

*Claire said that Mama is sick and is now putting address labels all over my arm. She says they are band-aids. ;) It's gonna hurt pulling those suckers off!

*Claire put her ponytail holders on her ankles and said, "Mama, my ankles need bracelets, too. They are very musical." (What? does that mean?) :)

*Lily telling me she is "too tired" when she doesn't want to go to sleep! lol. :) Exactly why you need to go to sleep sweet girl!

*Claire saying, "Daddy, I am going to marry you." Charlie said, "Why do you want to marry Daddy, baby?" Claire said, "You are cute (wonder where she heard that one?) and I am cute, so we can get married" Daddy says, "What about Mama?" Claire then said, "Well, she can cook for us". :) Gee thanks!! I get to be the maid!! HOW funny is that?! :)

*Fixing sweet potatoes for supper the other night and Claire said, "Where's the ugly potatoes?" Because if she is being bad, we tell her it is "being ugly " and if she is being good, we tell her she is "being sweet". So cute!

Well, I just thought I would share these! My kids say such cute things all of the time and I just forget to write them down. So, I am recording them here today. :)

Happy Friday!!

Chocolate Gravy....

I have thought of sharing this before and I guess that I just never did. It's cheap and we have it a lot with hot buttered biscuits. My mama and my granny fixed this growing up but the person I remember fixing it the most and the best (sorry, Mom) was Wilma(my Mom's best friend). I am missing & thinking of our Wilma(she died 4 years ago this week) so to honor her, I am posting her recipe (with some modifications made to fit the way my family likes it; but it's still basically her recipe).

4 heaping T. cocoa

4 heaping T. flour

1 c. sugar

Dash of salt

2 c. milk

1/2 stick butter (sliced into small slices)

1 t. vanilla

In medium bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa, salt. Whisk in milk until smooth. Pour into skillet and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture begins to thicken slightly. Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla. Serve over hot buttered biscuits. Yum! Yum!!

Oh, how time flies!!!

I have been looking & thinking about costumes for quite some time now and as Claire & I were discussing her "princess" costume (she wants to be a princess every year) I thought about these pictures from last year! So fun to look and see how much they have grown! =) I can't believe this time last year I had a 5 month old and this year I have a newborn!!! It's crazy and it's hard but it's also AWESOME!! =) Although, I don't plan on repeating that ever again. lol.
Well, I just felt like taking a trip down memory lane & taking you with me!! This year Claire & Lily will both be princesses (Claire insists & Lily doesn't really care; she just wants to be what Sissy is) and Drew will be a pumpkin, just because I think it is the cutest costume for babies!! And, I will take LOTS of pictures and post them for you; I promise!!
Have a wonderful week & A VERY HAPPY FALL!!!!
Love,
Julie

*I have more pictures that I want to share. A lot of them are of Lily's birthday parties and I want to scan Drew's ultrasound picture and get it posted for you. I will try to get that done this afternoon or tomorrow. It takes forever to scan these and then load them up to blogger! So, please pardon the crooked pictures because they are scanned and I can't seem to get them straight! :o)

Julie

Remembering.....

I found this today and thought it fitting for Memorial Day.

Please read and remember with respect those who died for our country.

MEMORIAL DAY

Memorial Day is not a day to be wrapped up in bunting and commemorated as if it were the Fourth of July although our national colors have had a prominent place in its observance since its origins at the close of the Civil War. The distinction has to do with what we are celebrating --not a glorious beginning but an honorable end--an end which, whether it were heroic or not, should be observed and remembered with solemnity and reverance. Memorial Day is a day we dedicate to the dead--to remember those who fell in defense of this country and the ideals which this country stands for. We may want, therefore, some drape of patriotism, some nod toward a higher motive more than mere circumstance, but not too much lest we trivilize the individual loss or somehow glorify the waste of youth and joy.
War should not be the occupation of humankind. To ensure that it is not, to ensure that it does not touch every household and every living being, some have forfeited their lives. They did not choose to die for us--no being chooses death who is sound of mind and spirit--even Jesus asked for the cup of death to be passed. Instead, they chose, or were sometimes required, to live in a manner which brought them in harm's way, and to that harm they fell.It is a paradox almost too vast for mind to comprehend. Thus, perhaps, we should leave the understanding of the sacrifice in God's hands--only He can know the full measure of what was lost and what was gained and whether the barter was fair met.
Our task is not to validate the sacrifice but to acknowledge it, to remember that it was made. We should do so, not out of guilt--what guilt should we own in surviving, in continuing as they laid down their lives to ensure. But we should do it with humility--most of us have done nothing to earn that continuing. And if any validation is necessary, it is for we the living to prove that we are worthy of the sacrifice through dedication toward the peace that was purchased by these honored dead.

BLESSINGS ON YOUR MEMORIAL DAY,

LOVE,
Julie
