The garden of our children's hearts...
From Today's Proverbs 31 ministries devotional:
What if we considered our children's hearts and lives as a garden? The principles of sowing and reaping apply as well. Every day we sow into those "gardens" through our words, behavior, and the disciplines we teach them. However, just like a vegetable garden, if we plant carrot seeds, we will reap carrots – not corn. Consequently, if we sow negative seeds of discouragement, we will reap despair. If we sow seeds of impatience, we will reap frustration. If we sow seeds of laziness, we will reap stress.
Conversely, if we sow healthy seeds of good choices, we will reap self-discipline. If we sow seeds of patience, we will reap peace. If we sow seeds of perseverance, we will reap success. Our children's hearts are rich soil prepared by God to receive good seed. As conscientious gardeners, we need to plant those that will reap a harvest in our children's lives and prepare them for service in the kingdom of God.
What if you don't see results right away? That's normal. After a few days, the farmer doesn't get frustrated with slow growth and rip the seeds out of the ground. No. The farmer continues to water the soil, shoo the birds away, and pull the weeds. The farmer protects the seed until it has a chance to grow in its own time.
God designed our children to grow and flouris h with love and care. However, failure can be the weeds in our children's lives. Weeds don't destroy the good seed, they just leech the nutrients out of the soil limiting the growth of the plant. Failure doesn't destroy our children's potential; it just removes the enthusiasm from their hearts.
In order to overcome the pain and heartache of failure, children need a parent who will step in with fresh water and bright sunlight, while replacing the weeds with healthy seed. With this tender care, perseverance and self-discipline will grow and develop. Then in time, our children will produce a harvest of confidence. May we be gardeners who don't give up until the harvest.
Dear Lord, I praise You for Your almighty power and wisdom. Thank You for making me with potential to grow and change. Help me to see that same potential in those I love and to become a gardener of healthy seed in their lives. Help me to see failure as something to overcome, not stop me for a live of obedience. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
*Now, I am off to sow some good seeds!!! Have a blessed day!!

a year old today....

Blogger is being extremely slow about posting pictures so hopefully I can get some more up later this evening. I have a really cute one of Drew in his cowboy hat!!Andrew Coy David.....we love you so very much!! You are one of the greatest blessings that we have ever received and you are such a wonderful son! You are so good and sweet and funny! What a sense of humor you have, already! I can not wait to see what you grow up to be! It is such an honor and a privilege to be your mama. God is so good!!
You greet me every morning with smiles and hugs that usually last a couple of minutes, at least! That always starts Mama's day off right! You are such a delight to your Dad and I and your sisters who never let you do anything yourself! You are "their" baby!!
You have 4 teeth and you are taking a few wobbly steps here and there but not taking off walking just yet! That's okay, do it in your own time. We can wait!
We love you, Andrew, and we praise God for your little life every.single.day.
Love always,
Mama
Happy Birthday, Drew!!!!
This is not his birthday post; I will be back with it later today! We are on our way out the door for our PE class with our homeschooling group!!!! Drew will get spoiled with cupcakes there(brought by Carie; thanks, girl!!) and then we will come back home and nap while Mama gets everything ready for supper here tonight with just our little family and we will have some cake for Drew. Tomorrow night, we will head over to Granny & Papaw Fogg's for supper and more cake!!! Sunday after services is still even more cake!! Whew! what a weekend but we will love it!! :)
I can't believe that my baby boy is 1 already......I am actually pretty sad about it. Happy to celebrate, of course, but sad that it passed by so quickly. But, as Charlie reminds me, he's still a baby!! I still have some of his babyhood left!!
More Andrew later today......
Love,
~Julie~

Happy Birthday, Allison & a must read for your marriage(this post is ALL over the place)
Drew in MeMe's lap at church; smiling big!! :)
Allison is on the very end holding Lily. Isn't she pretty? :)I am taking a "break" from my blogging break today for 3 VERY important reasons! First, Happy Birthday (yesterday) to our precious niece, Allison!!! She is 16 and will be driving next week!! (legally, anyway!) :) I am putting a picture of her on here but it's not real current. I am trying to get better about that! :) Hope you had a GREAT birthday, sweetie!! LOVE YOU!!!
Drew is also 5 months old today!!! I will write a longer post about this later!!!I can't believe that he is almost half a year old(where does the time go?!) and this is a fairly current pic of him but again I will HAVE to get better about this!!! (going computer shopping this weekend!!) YAY!! :)
And the third thing is this post today at Praise and Coffee. Thanks, Kelli, for sharing this!!! If you are married, read this. I have some things to add to this but for today I am just not sure what I should write so I will wait until God makes it more clear. This is a topic that is VERY hard to address and that is exactly why Satan is so victorious in this area. People sweep it under the rug. We CAN NOT allow that to happen; that is just automatically forfeiting the game to Satan!! More on this later when I get my thoughts together and have a little time to write a longer post!!
Praying for my husband is going pretty good but I could do better! I am going to stay on blogging break again until at least Saturday so that I can focus more intently on Charlie and his needs, especially in prayer. Something that I didn't expect is that Claire has prayed with me a few times and Lily (following Sissy's example) got down in the floor with us, as well and said her little prayers. My heart is just full when moments like that happen.
Well, back to my break & I hope ya'll are having a great week!!! :)
Love,
Julie

Love....
Charlie & I have started the LOVE DARE book. Our church also bought a copy for every couple to work on together which I think is a great idea. Already, this book has changed me.
I am trying to apply these principles to my children as well as to my husband, where appropriate. For example, the first day's challenge is "to say nothing negative to your spouse". So, I will say nothing negative to my husband or my children. Have you ever tried to do this? Have you noticed how many negative things we say in just an hour's time?! Much less a whole day or even, heaven forbid, EVERY DAY?
So, today, I started noticing just how negative I am to those I love. I noticed and even admitted guilt when my day started off rotten and kept getting worse. Yes, there were things that were not my fault. But, my attitude stunk. Hence, the reason, it kept getting worse instead of better. I even yelled several times and that is one thing that I hate to do to my kids and to Charlie. I am definitely seeking forgiveness today.
After praying and telling the kids how Mama was wrong to act that way and why, I prayed with them for God to forgive us for being selfish and ugly. I don't know if they understand but I want them to know what to do and where to go when they mess up. Because we all do and that's what's so cool about GRACE.
Well, just thought I would share that with you today. If you can, would you pray for Drew? He is very stopped up and with the phlegm is having a hard time breathing/sleeping. I am keeping it down with saline nose drops, humidifier, some Vics baby rub, and the steamy bathroom when it gets bad but I would appreciate the prayers that it doesn't get any worse. We have a dr.'s appointment but not for a couple of days and Claire & Lily have some pretty sore throats and are running a little fever. So, prayers would be very appreciated! Thanks! Have a wonderful week!
Love,
Julie

Here comes Santa Claus....
We are off to see Santa (aka..George, my brother-in-law) at the American Legion meet Santa Claus party. They give out candy to the kids and the kids get a picture with Santa. My Dad fixed candy bags for this so I was told we had to go... haha. :)
We will see if Lily will sit in Santa's lap. Since it's her Uncle George she might even though she won't know it. Claire will, I am sure. and Drew will probably just coo and gurgle at him! :)
Hopefully, I will get to post pictures. I am not promising though. You know how my computer situation is! Lol. I have to laugh about it! :)

I'm under attack...
*edited to say: I know that people love me, that friends and family love me. Deep down I know that. This is just the battle that I fight every day with myself. Not anything that anyone has or hasn't done!
Charlie and I went to see Fireproof on Sunday night. It was, as I already said, in a word, AWESOME!!! It has been life changing for us! I am seeing things in my husband that I have prayed for and now they are coming true! Last night was a very huge moment for us. Charlie took me down on the floor with him on our knees and he prayed over us. :) I cannot stop crying today. Just tears of absolute joy everytime I think of my precious husband and how he is trying so hard to be the husband/father he is called to be, how his heart is so tender towards me now and most important, He is walking with Christ every step of the way! :)
We are going through some major things right now and I am not afraid. Charlie is standing up and taking control and I am SO proud of my husband! However, the problem is with me.
Satan is atttacking me; big time. I have a major self pity thing going on. I am not able to focus so well when I am in prayer. I just feel like I need to sleep and have no urge to take care of my family or my home. Sounds bad, huh? But, I have to admit it. I must get this out so that Satan has NO power over my mind. I have learned exactly what to do to make him go away! ;)
I am just in a major funk. I feel like no one cares about me and I have been trying to reach out to others but feel rejected. I hate that feeling and it makes me start questioning myself. It makes me feel horrible because I feel not worthy of friendship or of anything good in my life. I hate this about me, that I let my mind control me so many times.
My parenting has definitely suffered. I am very easily angered and struggling to stay calm and let the little things just go. Lily is a little screamer when she doesn't get her way and listening to this ALL. DAY. LONG. is driving me insane! Claire is going through a thing where she hates to wear pants (of any kind) , her seat belt, etc. and throws a screaming fit when she has too. Which, you know, is any time we go anywhere at all. Drew is doing pretty good but I can't give him the attention he needs because I have spent most of my day today defusing temper tantrums and wondering if I am losing my mind?!
And, I have surgery scheduled for Tuesday morning. I am always worried when I have surgery. And this is a very hard and sad day for me. Without going into our reasons or our decision, I will not be able to have more children. We know that this is the right decison but we are very sad. My life is my husband and my children. That's all I know and I love every second of it. I really believe that my conflicting feelings are the source of a lot of this mess I am going through this week. Please pray for us.
Anyway, I just felt like I had to get this said. I know that I have not been walking around with my "full armour of God" as my protection against Satan's attacks. I must stay in the word, that is why I am starting the memory verse. I must focus on what my family thinks of me and their needs from me as a wife and mother. I HAVE to get to that point where I no longer worry about what people (even family) think of me. I have to stop letting other people's opinions of me control me. I KNOW WHO I AM. I KNOW I AM WORTHY. I KNOW I AM CALLED TO BE CHARLIE'S WIFE AND CLAIRE, LILY & DREW'S MAMA. THE LORD IS MY HEAVENLY FATHER AND HE LOVES ME.
and that's all I need to know.

Andrew Coy David....8 weeks old!
Our son. Our third child here on earth. Beautiful, calm, easy going baby of the family. Mama's little man. Daddy's buddy. Claire & Lily's baby doll. I love to watch you with your sisters. With Claire you smile and coo and try so hard to interact with her. She calls you her, "sweet sweet drew" and runs to your every cry. With Lily you kindly tolerate her rough loving! She loves you so much but she just doesn't know how to be gentle! =) We are teaching her though and she is becoming a great big sister, too. Very protective of her baby Drew! =)
I love to watch you lay in your bassinet and stare at your mobile. You love the Bach and Beethoven settings and the nature sounds of crickets and birds. You are most definitely mama's boy! Classical music is what I love best when I have a bad headache and I could go to sleep under the stars any night! You are so cute when you move your fists and feet and try to talk to the crickets!
Daddy's nickname for you is "chigger" just as he calls Claire "cricket" and Lily "lightening bug". You are chigger. And it fits you so well! =)
You are eating every 3 hrs. just about right on the dot and you take about 3 -1 & 1/2 hr. naps every day. You eat about 8 pm. go to sleep, wake up at 11:00 pm, eat, and sleep through until about 6 or 7 am. You are an excellent sleeper! Which helps Mama feel so much better and I am able to function so much better with good sleep. =)
Drew, you are just a very good, laid back baby. You bring a lot of peace to our lives. You are just so good and content most of the time! =) We love you, so much, Drew-bear, chigger, and we can't wait to see what wonderful plans our Lord has for your life! It is such a blessing to be your mother!
Lots and lots and lots of love,
Your Mommy
*the other day, we were in the grocery store and a man stopped us and said, "you certainly have a quiver full" "it is so nice to see people who are joyful with their children, you seem like very good parents". It felt so good to hear someone praise us for having children instead of the usual looks and even rude comments we get sometimes because our children are so close in age. I just wanted to share that to encourage all of you that have children. There are people that notice your hard work and even though that is not what's important (that people notice) it feels good to know that there are kind people out there who understand all of your hard work is for a purpose. Anyway, I just wanted to share that. It made my day! =)

Andrew's birth day story & pictures!! (Our handsome sweet baby boy is 1 month old today!!)

Drew's birth day story (well, the abbreviated version, for those of you who asked for it)!
Andrew Coy David Fogg "Drew"
Andrew- "manly, strong, wise"-first apostle of our Lord Jesus Christ & in honor of Baby Andrew Fogg (Charlie's uncle)
Coy- "gentle, kind, quiet"- in honor of: Lloyd Coy Treat (my Grandpa)
David- "beloved of God" in honor of: Kermit David Ferguson (my uncle)
*The story of Drew's birthday begins with feeling achy and crampy off and on for about a month! However, the night before his birth, it was off the charts! I was up all night going to the bathroom and walking because my back hurt. I tossed and turned because my hips ached. But, I still did not think that I was in labor! =)
I woke up at around 6 and thought my water may have broke but I was just barely doing anything and in my history I have been a gusher when my water breaks, so, I didn't think it could really be that! But, by around 6:30 it just got worse so I called my Mom to come down and see if she thought that's what it was! Silly I know! After she came down, we called my sister to tell her that my water may have broke! Finally, we decided that's what it was and started getting ready to go to the hospital. It was around 8 am before we left and we had to drive an hour and a half to the hospital. So, after we arrived and got checked in, they hooked me up to pitocin as I was only a 3 and not even feeling my contractions yet! After 6 sticks and no success getting the IV needle in; I finally got the anesthegiolist who got it on her first try. Very painful. About noon I finally started feeling some real pain and progressed a 5 by 1:30. When I got my epidural(which didn't even work; the needle bent), I was a 7! And just minutes (and I do mean minutes) later, I was a 10 and ready to push with no doctor in sight! After the doctor ran from her office to the hospital, I was allowed to push and after much pain and a few pushes, sweet baby Drew came into this world and changed my life forever as once again I experienced the sweet blessed miracle, the privilege of giving birth.
I look at Drew and am amazed, as with all of our babies, that this child is part me & part Charlie & a lot of his own person! It's such a sweet time in our lives right now and I am so blessed and happy to be the Mama to such sweet babies and the wife to such a loving husband.
Well, there it is! The short abbreviated version of little Drew's birth day! And, finally, some recent pictures of Drew and our family to enjoy!
Have a great rest of the week!
Love,
Julie & family

Tidbits from life around here...
Things that have happened around here lately:
*Drew slept 4 & 1/2 hrs. last night and is on a eat, waketime, sleep routine of every 3 hrs. all by himself!!! =)
* Lily has 2 new teeth!!! She is also now wearing pull-ups!! We are not going in the potty (nor am I pushing her to) but she was outgrowing the diapers so we had to do something! She is such a chunky monkey! =)
* Claire is riding her tricycle and today has been watching Martha Stewart and instructing me on how to make cookies. We've also started watching, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" in preparation for all the upcoming fun!! She wants to be a (surprise!) Princess for all the Fall activities! How did I know that was coming? lol.
* Lily is "reading" to Drew and Claire sings to him every night. It's so precious & Drew loves the Veggie Tales themesong (Claire & Lily's fave)
* Made Halloween cookies 2 days this week; Charlie took some to work for the crew. Used this recipe; try it, they're yummy! =) (I have pictures, will try to get them posted tonight or tomorrow)
* Claire cut a hunk out of Lily's hair with her safety scissors! Yes, they were put up but Miss Claire knows how to climb on kitchen chairs extremely well. It's not too bad, I caught her before the damage was irreversible!
* Charlie has helped me with the baby a few nights this week. He is such a wonderful husband. He has to get up at 4:30 am so for him to help and not complain is so sweet. With three kids, it's pretty much a given that neither one of us is going to sleep all night long, undisturbed! Dream on! So, it's great that he is willing to help so much. I love you, baby!!!! There is no one else like you. I am so blessed that you are mine!
* Making this for supper tonight! I don't like to use bouillon, though, so I substituted 3/4 cup margarine (butter would be better but I am watching calories) and 1 cup water. I also added a little more soy sauce. We will see how it turns out! It smells so delicious cooking in my crock-pot! =)
* Claire was playing outside, "cooking" and she told me she was making me peanut butter soup in her crockpot! I thought that was so cute & funny! =)
* So ready to make pumpkin bread!! I have the pumpkin bought so I think tomorrow is the day! Try this recipe; it's SO good! =)
* Listen to this song over at my sister's blog! We love this song, too, it's great when you are just in the dumps! It's uplifting! =)
* Loving on sweet baby Drew is going great! We are spoiling him rotten and loving every minute of it!! He is such a good, laid back, easy baby. He is a precious blessing and such a sweetheart! Mama & Daddy sure love our baby boy! And so do his sisters! =)
Well, that is just a little update on everything around here. I promise to try and get pictures posted in the next couple of days! My computer has issues (we need a new one, so bad!) and my Mom's is having issues, as well. It takes a lot of time to load them and I just haven't had the time! I so want to share more pictures of our family with you so just be patient with me! And I will try to be patient, as well! Have a great weekend, everyone!
Love,
Julie

Thank you so much & a prayer request
Hi!! Just a quick note to let everyone know that we are doing wonderful!! Thank you SO much for all of the sweet congratulations & emails!! =)
Drew slept some 3 hr. stretches last night and he is eating more with every feeding so it is going well. Friday night was kinda rough, he was up every hour but thanks to Mom and Crystal, Charlie & I got a nap Saturday evening so that helped!
I will be back to share some of his birth day with you but for now I am too tired to stay on here that long. I will try to have the pictures posted out of my camera later today or tomorrow. It's slow going around here and it may take me a little while. Just know that he is the sweetest cutest little boy that I have ever seen and he is already Mama's little man. And, Daddy is just over the moon with his little buddy. Claire takes her job as big sister very seriously and Lily thinks that he is her big baby doll!! =)
On a more serious note, last week, a family we know suffered a devastating loss. The husband, Chad, drowned and left behind his wife Laura and their two small children, a son and a daughter. Please pray for this family, fervently. I can't imagine the pain and devestation that she and the children are facing. I am sorry that I did not get it posted sooner so that we could all be praying sooner. But, I know that they will be needing prayers from now on through their lives. If you would do this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Love to all of you and Prayers for you and yours,
Charlie, Julie, Claire, Lily & Drew

Update & a blogging break
Just a little update... I am still not doing anything major so it looks like it may be a little while before our son decides to make his grand appearance! He is just not in any hurry what-so-ever! =)
If he is not here by the 8th, we will talk induction. I want him to come naturally but I am being realistic. Both girls were inductions. So, the odds are not great that he will come on his own anytime soon.
Anyway, I will be on a blogging break for awhile. I just have so many things on my mind right now and things that need my major attention. I just feel a shifting of my priorities and right now blogging is not one of them. I don't know how long the break will be but I will be sure to post pictures and let you know of baby Drew's birth!! And, I will blog periodically after that, I am sure. Blogging is something I love but I just can't make it an idol. I have to take care of my family first. So, I will be back as soon as everything settles down and our schedule is going good.
So, I will still be commenting some on your blogs, I just won't be around as often or posting here quite so much. I hope you all have a wonderful month of September and a joyous and blessed Fall season. =)
Love to everyone & Thank you for your prayers!!!

Where o' where is Baby Andrew?!
Just an update: I am dialated to the big number of 1 maybe 1 & 1/2!!!! That's it! 38 weeks and I am a 1 & 1/2 at the most! AGH! And, I was not really happy with my visit yesterday and I actually bawled after I got out of the dr.'s office. =(
Anyway, all of that to say, that I know God is teaching me in this moment. He is using this waiting time to bring some things to my attention and I know that I must abide in HIM as I wait. It is difficult to not demand and whine and cry that baby Drew come out today as right now that does not seem to be in our Heavenly Father's plans for this little one! I MUST trust that HIS plans are perfect and that He has the perfect birth day for our little baby boy. Just please pray for me that I can have the strength and peace to do that!! =)
In waiting out this time, maybe I can get a few more things accomplished before he arrives! Or, maybe I can just spend more time just being with my amazing husband and little girls! =) If he is not here by Saturday, Charlie & I have a big day planned with homemade doughnuts for the girls, outside playtime with them, and lunch and shopping(for the baby) in town just me & Charlie! So, that will be fun!!!! Time by ourselves!!!! Yay!!!! (Can you tell that I am excited?)
Well, I have to get off of this computer and make breakfast and play with the girls for awhile. They are SO exhausted from the trip and missed naps yesterday! It will be nice just to hang out here at home and let them play and help Mama "clean". They love to "help" me "clean"!! I hope it continues as they get older but I am not holding my breath!! =)
Oh, and we will be listening to a "SELAH" CD that I bought yesterday while we work and play! I have been wanting a CD of theirs for awhile and I am blown away!! My Mama even likes it and we very rarely ever like the same Christian music!!! So, I would say, that if it bridges generations like that, it must be awesome!!! We listened to it all afternoon yesterday!! Mama even loved the African stuff!! REALLY cool!!! =)
So, enough rambling for today. I hope you enjoyed my little ecclectic post about anything and everything! I am finding that as I get closer to the birth, I am rambling a lot!
Blessings and Prayers on you and your families,
Julie
